That's a Wrap! : 5313

This semester has really opened my eyes to how I want to develop the learning environment for my students in my STEAM club. The first book we read this semester, "A New Culture of Learning," opened my eyes to the importance of incorporating play into my students' learning. This book alone helped me create a foundation for my Learning Philosophy.

In developing my learning philosophy, I looked into different educational theorists. The one I related to the most was Jean Piaget. I love that his focus was on getting students to take the information they were learning and create something new and different, rather than just regurgitating it on a test. His theory led me to the development of the type of Learning Environment I want to provide for my students. I created a UbD Template that I hope to further develop as I gain more understanding of how to create lessons. As the campus technologist, I am usually not the one creating these. That alone is going to be a huge learning curve for me. The last thing that really helped to hone my design structure was the change in my Growth Mindset. I understand now that my students need more than just a growth mindset if I want them to become lifelong learners. I need to model and foster not only a Growth Mindset but also a Learner's Mindset, so that my students can find a passion for learning. As I move forward, I want to continue to change my teaching approach into more of a guide for my students and create an environment in my STEAM club where curiosity, creativity, and play are the foundation.
